Oscar Branson, American Society of Dowsers Trustee, had founded the Phoenix Lifeforce Chapter and several people from Southern Arizona drove to Phoenix to attend their meetings. Since it was a long trip for many, Oscar called a meeting in the spring of 1984 of dowsers living around Tucson. Ten members signed an agreement to establish a chapter and a charter was granted on June 23, l984. These founding members were Dick Abernathy, Oscar Branson, Howard Bright, Walter Durniak, Dayton Gavlin, Homer Hefty, Les Hopkins, Robert Pague, George Szkup and Cameron St. John.

Our first meeting in October l984 had 57 people in attendance. At first we met in meeting rooms at Tucson libraries and also a Recreation Center. For many years we met at St. Francis in the Foothills until we had to find a larger space and currently are meeting at the Unitarian Universalist Recreation Hall. Our speakers use dowsing of various modes and speak on related subjects. Our first newsletter was started by the Secretary Ginny Gates who designed the cactus with dowsing rods. Our newsletter editors Virginia Moyer and Deanna Myerson won National Awards for the best newsletter in different years. In 2006, Tucson was the Chapter of the Year and other members have been honored for their dowsing work.
